David Copperfield

David Copperfield was happy
To finally get out of his novel
Adjusting to life in the 2020s
Without too much difficulty

The food options, for example,
Much broader (more ethnic)
And also a lot less pestilence

He’s an immediate hit on the social scene
And gets dragged to literary dinner parties
“Oh, THAT David Copperfield!”
Everybody asks him about Dickens
And did he know Scrooge or Tiny Tim?

Non-literary people prompt him to do tricks
And he’ll sigh and have to explain
He isn’t David Copperfield the magician
And they just kind of look at him blankly

And he begins to dread his name and his existence

So, hoping to escape his name
He decides to legally change it
To an unusual one so people will leave him alone
The one he picks is unfortunate, though
“The Artist Formerly Known as Prince”
