Goodbye to Gods

Gods are dying
Left and right
Much as one
Expects they might

5000 before them
Every one gone
Those still here
Won’t last long

Gods were great
For explaining the world
Til science came along
And knowledge unfurled

We know earthquakes don’t happen
Cuz gods are displeased
And viruses and bacteria
Are what ause disease

Not gods or demons

The gods aren’t fighting
To make thunder and lightning
And praying to gods
Won’t yield touchdowns or teeth brightening

Gods are now relegated
To the great unknown
Their “mysterious ways”
Are the only things they own

You can pray to them
But not all are answered
So you can’t count on them
To cure a lung cancer

I say goodbye to the gods
You’ve had your run
There’s no life after this one
Go out and have fun
