From my Midwestern childhood
I still can remember
The excitement in Quincy
That came with December
As a wee child, of course
The primary reason
Was the focus upon
The holiday season
Yes, the coming of Santa
And the thrills, oh so many
That came with his visit
To the old J.C. Penney
The snow falling down
The temperatures too
The line there to see him
A very long queue
Meeting Santa in person
Was not to be missed
With the excitement of reciting
To him a wish list
But there was a puzzle
I could not figure why
The guy stored his toys
At Quincy Supply
Now I’m old and I’m gray
And hopefully not jaded
Saying thanks to our parents
For Christmas – they made it
