A gray hawk circling overhead
Looking for its daily bread
Spots a little tasty treat
A very skinny grayish mouse
Outside its very tiny house
Wouldn’t it be good to eat?
The hawk swoops down
Close to the ground
And opens up its jaw
The mouse, this day
Runs far away
Obeying nature’s law
The hawk, astute
Keeps up pursuit
Makes changes in its flight
The mouse displays
Its fear and prays
Then digs with all its might
But moving soil
Is too much toil
The mouse is soon exhausted
But as the hawk nears
A wind gust rears
And knocks its angle off it
The mouse survived
The errant dive
A whisker from despair
So, an even score
The outcome for
The predator and the prayer
