A man arose one night to speak
Decrying the state of the world
To him, the outlook very bleak
In the message he unfurled
Those people who were seated nearest
Pricked up their ears to listen
The words he spoke rang out the clearest
To those in low positions
When times are troubled, opinions cater,
As problems are encountered,
To lowest common denominators
And society edges downward
“Education’s bad,” he loudly proclaimed
And hardly anyone complained
Caught in the tide of opinion public
His idea gained some ground
Spreading all across the republic
Cuz his voice was very loud
It rattled every neighborhood
And threatened social good
Its acceptance signaling that the crowd
Never understood
