Some say “life was simpler then”
Referring to a century ago
But simpler doesn’t mean better
And this is why that is so
Electricity wasn’t a given
As many were far from the grid
And traveling in an airplane
Was what only daredevils did
If you happened to get an infection
A poultice you might apply
Cuz antibiotics weren’t known yet
And with complications, you could die
Life expectancy was 55 years
And worse if you were poor
Today, we can expect to get
About 25 years more
Yes, there are plenty of problems today
But the worst of the old ones are gone
The folks who look for the “Good Old Days”
Are simply keeping blinders on
