The Egg Deliverer

(Our neighbor is a wonderful lady, always leaving us fresh eggs on our doorstep. After she left a dozen eggs along with an eggplant, this is the verse I wrote for her)

At our front door
My legs just quivered
Upon discovering
New eggs delivered

On top of that
A joyous rant
Because she gave us
A new eggplant

Which, I wonder
Can it produce?
Better than
A golden goose?

My deepest wish is
Fate will will it
To be delicious
And also that – I don’t kill it
