(a disguised poem follows)
People often tell me. “I miss your poems in the GT. I wish you’d write some more because, they were very enjoyable to me.” My answer to them is that the GT quit publishing verses. I won’t be back in print again unless their policy reverses. And then it occurred to me that I really shouldn’t say ‘never.’ Anything is possible. You just have to be clever.
It really isn’t clear to me why there’s a ban on poetry. The paper’s full of different writings, cartoons, almanacs, astrological sitings. Do verses differ all that much, especially if written with a soft touch? So I beg, dear editor, hear my plea and reverse your stand on poetry.
