(about growing up in my hometown of Fowler, Illinois)
A lot of farms
A little town
Rural charm
All around
The Cattle family’s
Grocery store
Off highway
Twenty four
Farm and factory
60s cool
Eight full grades
A four room school
4H Clubs
FFA
Baseball games
Baling hay
Unity High’s
Mustang crowd
Pretty farm girls’
Hair curled proud
Homecoming floats
And winter coats
And big sock hops
And school bus stops
And miniskirts
And paisley shirts
And snow tire chains
And Unity Lanes
And assemblies in the gym
Way back when
Then Johnny crashed
And Curt and Phil died
Unabashed
Everyone cried
One July day
I moved away
But could not foresee
On the day I left home
It would never leave me
