Zucchini

Consider the zucchini
Long and angled and green
Very much like a cucumber
But slightly more obscene

Folks plant these beasts every spring
Awaiting fruit from vines
But one thing to beware of
Is known as harvest time

At first they are a welcome treat
A tasty summer nosh
But the expanding federal deficit
Cannot compare to squash

It soon will take o’er garden space
And squeeze out other plants
Your neighbor’s doghouse targeted
If it should get a chance

You try to give away the stuff
But that won’t work, it’s clear
Friends and family still have some
Of what you gave last year

But don’t feel sorry for yourself
Though options may seem thin
It’s time to close the family room
Zucchini’s moving in
