Frowning Lady

Frowning lady at the wheel
Awaits the moment when she’ll

Go zero to sixty in something flat
With muffler noise on top of that

I think about her day of birth
When she was first upon the Earth

Did her mother dream she’d sail the sky
Like an astronautic butterfly?

Or be a leader of us all
Fighting injustice, standing tall

A doctor, maybe, curing ills
Giving shots, prescribing pills

Unlimited future, inspiring awe
Is this what her mother saw?

The lady looks askance at me
Revving her engine impatiently

The light changes. Off she flies
A world away, a mother sighs
