A Most Unusual Zoo

I went to an unusual zoo today
And now I’ll tell you more
Upon arrival, I was met
By a big wolf at the door

At first, I really felt quite good
But that turned into gloom
The minute I became aware
Of the elephant in the room

It only lasted a little while
So my spirits didn’t sag
As soon as someone went and let
The cat out of the bag

The cat was not the oddest thing
That exited the sack
There was an ugly creature too
That monkey on its back

The birds were also weirdly placed
It said upon a sign
That I would have to go below
To see canaries in the mine

And please don’t get me started
About the unusual sight
Of the blackbird singing
In the dead of night

There was much to see, but I had to leave
To get to an appointment
Before departing, I got to see
A fly in the ointment

I’m happy that I saw these things
So I wrote for you this sonnet
The reason that I had to was
The bee inside my bonnet
