The America that I once knew
No longer in the public view
Now caters to a favored few
Merchant multi-billionaires
Peddling their modern wares
Bypass taxes, funding heirs
It wasn’t like this always, please
This land had opportunities
Strength in small communities
Before there was consumer ease
And trickle down economies
There were intelligent policies
Things came from a five and dime
A vestige of another time
Now, one click and it comes Prime
I miss those days. I miss my friends
And hot dogs and happy hours and weekends
It seemed that it would never end
And here we are
