Two for One

English is an odd language
Two words may be spelled the same
But their pronunciation and meaning
Are totally different games

Consider a bandage
Which it may be presumed
Is something that can be
Wound around a wound

How about the landfill owner
Who has the blues
Because he had to
Refuse some refuse

I think you
Can understand this for sure
If you’ve ever had to
Polish your Polish furniture

Then there’s the farmer
Who every year has to choose
Whether or not
To produce produce

What about the soldier
Always on alert
Giving thought to
Committing a desert in the desert

And Christmas is
A time most pleasant
For you to go and
Present your present

How about the thicket
In the apple grove
Which happens to be
Where the dove dove

Then there’s the male deer
Always on his toes
Because of all the things
He does for does

The lady with the needle
Wishes septic problems were fewer
Or so says
The sewer about the sewer

And you, over there
Staring at the floor
I think you’re standing
Too close to close the door

As for a windmill
Someone designed it
So as to let
The wind wind it

And finally, people in charge
Without a doubt
Need to do two things –
Lead and get the lead out
