Laddership

You sit
Office-bound
Shuffling memos
Greeting people
Answering calls
Chain of command

You climb a ladder
Sucking wisdom
Ideas
Energy
Of others
And on this pile of suckage
You stand

You stand there
Looking over your shoulder
Constantly upwards
At the shadows
Of the ones above you
When they cough
You cough
Aren’t you grand?

You’re the grand one who
When stones roll down from above
You push them
Faster
Downhill
As if
They needed your help
To get to the bottom
So bland

So bland is your
Work
That you measure success
In stones pushed
Even when
They run over
People who stand

God forbid
You ever
Get to
Command
