Let’s Hope We’re Alone

Dancing above us
In blackness of sky
Lights in the heavens
Worlds floating by

Humanity wondering
From the age of stone
Is anyone up there?
Are we alone?

Are we the only ones
Poisoning water and air?
And despite this knowledge
The leaders don’t care?

Are we all alone
In killing each other
Father, mother
Sister, brother?

Are there little green people
Enriching a few
While everyone else
Just struggles through?

Are there alien races
Living life way too fast
Repeating in cycles
Mistakes of the past?

Are there unknown cultures
Where it’s considered beneficial
To pass off thinking
To brains artificial?

As we search for life elsewhere
Here’s hoping it’s a bust
And that there’s not anyone
Anything like us
