(to the tune of “Any Dream Will Do”)
(Dedicated to Bob Gibbons, AKA “Apochorus Bob” leader of our Crete singing group, the Apochorus Singers)
The maestro stands, prepared for cueing
Thirty singers cooing, a thankless job
They get their start. On count of three now
But way off key, yeow(!) To Apochorus Bob
He waves his hand (he waves his hand). Gesticulating (ah-ah-ah).
No need debating (ah-ah). There’s a real big prob
The altos are (the altos are). . . singing too softly (ah-ah-ah)
The men too awfully (ah-ah) For Apochorus Bob
Chorus
So he declares. “You’re too uptight”
“Razzle Dazzle’s not quite right”
“The harmonies all disappear”
“Singing as you do”
So they return (so they return), to the beginning (ah-ah-ah)
The heads all swimming (ah-ah), in the vocal mob
Their words emerge (their words emerge), uncaptivating (ah-ah-ah)
Slowly frustrating (ah-ah) Apochorus Bob
Chorus
He interrupts. “You’re better but”
“It needs to come more from the gut”
“Sopranos need to belt it out”
“Try it one more time”
And so it is (and so it is). They do it over (ah-ah-ah)
With this makeover (ah-ah). It’s a real good job
This gives them all (this gives them all) Great satisfaction (ah-ah-ah)
And a nice reaction (ah-ah) From Apochorus Bob
Apochor ** Apochorus * Apochor ** Apochorus Bob
Apochor ** Apochorus * Apochor ** Apochorus Bob
